April 2021: Covers, Part 2

Spring is rolling along and this month we’re picking up our covers series on Acoustic Blend!

The last time around back in August I was inspired by Drew & Ellie Holcomb’s Kitchen Covers collection, which at that point hadn’t been released as an album. Now that it’s out, we’ll lead off the hour with one of theirs:

We have a couple more Tom Petty tunes in store, along with songs written by Bob Dylan, John Prine, Cheryl Crow, and Jimmy Eat World (covered by Audrey Assad)!

A great cover brings a fresh voice and vibe while honoring the original song, and there are some very fun performances this hour. Speaking of which, we will be featuring another track from Lake Street Dive and their Fun Machine EP.

And while spinning some Lake Street Dive I couldn’t leave out Akie Bermiss and Eva Cassidy — that’ll round out the soul portion of the playlist. I sure do hope you’re tapping your feet, singing along, and maybe finding a new artist to explore. Joshua Hyslop is my pick from this particular show — you can hear his rendition of a classic Petty tune at the 40 minute mark. So good!
