It's springtime (unofficially) and time for another installment of Acoustic Blend!
This month we are welcoming the arrival of Spring with songs about fresh sunshine, rain, new life (and love) in bloom, and the optimism that comes with the first season after winter. We’ll kick off the hour with some songs about the weather, including one from Andrew Duhon — a “new to me” artist I’ve been digging recently. Here’s a bonus track from him:
As we venture through our show this month you’ll hear a few classics I just couldn’t pass up, along with a number of happy songs (more than a couple titled “Spring”). My favorite of the whole batch is probably this tune from Andy Gullahorn, which speaks of the changing perspective that comes with a fresh vantage point. So many of his songs are so heartfelt, and the birds singing in the background on this one are a nice touch.
It wouldn’t be a spring show without some love in the air, and so my friend Briagha McTavish will chip in a song (part of my plug for the Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters, accepting applications until April 16!) and we’ll close with the below quote from John O’Donohue.
When love awakens in your life, in the night of your heart, it is like the dawn breaking within you. Where before there was anonymity, now there is intimacy; where before there was fear, now there is courage; where before in your life there was awkwardness, now there is a rhythm of grace and gracefulness; where before you used to be jagged, now you are elegant and in rhythm with your self. When love awakens in your life, it is like a rebirth, a new beginning.
