Welcome to Acoustic Blend with Barrett Myers. New episodes air each month on the second Saturday at 8pm on WBAA. I’m here to make good art, share great music, and be a little oasis of peace and good vibes. Please consider sharing or subscribing to spread the love. Thanks for tuning in!
Last month we started the year off with a little reflection, and we’ll roll into Valentine’s day this year with a rewind of last year’s “River of Romance” playlist1. If you missed out on reflecting on 2022 or want some inside info on my current journaling practices, January’s episode is still up on Spotify. The Spotify show has an extra 10-ish minutes at the beginning that’s a little podcast-like. Look for another new episode next month with a fresh playlist and some of my musings on home.
This month we’ll kick off the hour with some NEEDTOBREATHE and make our way from infatuation to heartbreak and then to healing. Along the way you’ll hear a couple artists with ties to Lafayette, one of whom (Briagha McTavish) is a previous winner of the Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters. The Songwriters Association of Mid-North Indiana (SAMI) just announced this year’s version of the scholarship, open to songwriters age 14-19 in 14 different Indiana counties. There is a $400 cash prize, and all entries will receive feedback on their original song. Check samisong.com for more details!
As we wind down the hour, you’ll hear a Robert Frost poem with string quartet Atlys in the background. You can catch them live in Lafayette in early April (four different shows April 12-13!). Their most recent release is a cover of “Call Me Maybe,” and I’m not even going to apologize for getting that song stuck in your head.
Acoustic Blend airs Saturday, February 11 at 8pm EST on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the full playlist below. ‘Til next month!
