It’s June (already?!) and time for a playful installment of Acoustic Blend!
Our theme this month is childhood — playfulness, innocence, wonder — all of the good things that spring from the fertile ground of youth. I brought some helium balloons and bubbles into the studio for this one, and hopefully you’ll be singing along in no time!
We’ll lead off the hour with a brand new track from NEEDTOBREATHE, and from there Drew Holcomb and Jetty Rae will help set the tone. For the young (and young at heart) in your life, Jetty Rae’s Stardust album is definitely worth a listen. Go ahead and break out the kiddie pool and a cold beverage, and maybe a little Peter, Paul, and Mary as well:
About halfway through our journey together we’ll go a little deeper (I couldn’t resist) and let NEEDTOBREATHE and Sleeping At Last lead us into a more reflective space. The song “Daughter” below isn’t in the show this month, but would fit nicely into this part of the playlist.
Sleeping At Last will also provide the background music for the reading of Angels by Mary Oliver. You can read the full poem here and let the wonder and childlike faith stir. Here are the last couple lines:
I’ll just leave you with this.
I don’t care how many angels can
dance on the head of a pin. It’s
enough to know that for some people
they exist, and that they dance.
Acoustic Blend airs this Saturday, June 12 at 8pm EDT on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the playlist at barrettmyers.com and below, once the show airs. ‘Til next month!
