Well friends, it's time for the January edition of Acoustic Blend! This month our theme is blessings over the New Year. In times of darkness and uncertainty, it's easy for fear to take over and short-circuit faith, hope and love. So it's my hope that these songs and blessings impart some strength to you for the coming days.
Our featured artist this month is Judah & the Lion, and we're including more than a few tracks from them this month... So I thought I would throw in a few more! I've recently been really excited to hear fresh music from Judah Akers (namesake of said band) and his new project JUDAH. (That link goes to their YouTube if you want a peek!)
Judah & the Lion will introduce our first blessing, which is unconditional love. From there we will move to savored moments, creativity, playfulness, laughter, the beauty of nature, and hope. There are some very clever tunes in store, and one you might miss the first time around is Mat Kearney's song “Count on Me.” It took me so many listens to realize that the verses count up one through eight, and then A through I. Listen a few times if you're confused on that one 🙂
We'll also feature a couple tracks from the brand new double album from my friend Joe Peters, entitled Collaboration. The project features the talents of 30+ artists (I stopped counting haha) and was collaboratively written and produced over the past year. For more of the story, you can listen to Joe's song “COVID Collabs” (track 16). You can also hear my vocals on the song “Hey Mary” (track 4). The album is currently only on bandcamp and coming soon to other streaming platforms.
Our poem this month is "The Peace of Wild Things" by Wendell Berry, paired with Joe Peters' new song “Sparks,” from the aforementioned Collaboration album.
Acoustic Blend airs this Saturday, January 9 at 8pm on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the playlist below once the show airs and at barrettmyers.com. ‘Til next month!
