It's time for the February edition of Acoustic Blend, and do I have a treat for you heading into Valentine's Day weekend! Lately I've been thinking of dear souls who have left their mark on my life, and on the world. This month it felt right to remember my grandfather, Gramps as we call him, by dedicating the hour to him.
Gramps lived a long and full 95 years, and we have tracks spanning decades and inspired by my earliest memories, stories that he used to tell, and songs he loved to sing. My aunts and uncles chipped in a few requests as well, and I have been singing some of those classics (like "Hey, Good Lookin'") all week!
My favorite request came from my Uncle Dan, who remembered being piled in the car heading to grandma's, with his dad singing some song about a pawn shop on a corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And the most touching was from my Aunt Denise, who requested the below Dan Fogelberg tune, since "we are all a living legacy to the leader of the band".
To top it all off, I'm sharing a very special live recording of my song "Someone Must Have Wanted Me," which chronicles Gramps' life. At this time I don't have it available for release on the typical streaming platforms, but I do hope you enjoy the version below (featuring my lovely wife on background vocals).
Acoustic Blend airs this Saturday, February 13 at 8pm on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the playlist below once the show airs and at barrettmyers.com. ‘Til next month!
