It's the December edition of Acoustic Blend, and this month we are taking some time to reflect on… Advent!
This year (of all years) I started playing Christmas music in July, in an effort to remind myself of a reason to hope and the promise of rescue. Our playlist this month is a mix of folksy takes on traditional favorites and some reflective instrumental pieces, the first of which is the song "Remembering" from John McLaughlin's album Mood.
Mood has become a favorite of mine both for driving in heavy traffic and unwinding at home at the end of a long week. As I write this I have John McLaughlin's recently released Christmas Time album playing in the background, queued up right before Mood II.
So those are your bonus tracks for this month! Our featured artist for December is The Oh Hellos, a nod to one of my absolute favorite Christmas albums, The Oh Hellos’ Family Christmas. That one, along with Bebo Norman's Christmas… From the Realms of Glory, is right at the top of my list.
Our poem this month is "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver, paired with a track from George Winston’s December. What about you? Drop a comment or reply with what you’re listening to this time of year.
Acoustic Blend airs this Saturday, December 12 at 8pm on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the playlist below once the show airs and at barrettmyers.com. Til next month!
