Hello friends! It’s time for another installment of Acoustic Blend, and this month we are taking a trip back in time…
This month’s episode is from October 2019, which was my first time hosting after appearing on the show a couple times. When I was a kid, I had a record player and tape recorder and would play records and record myself as DJ. So it felt pretty serendipitous when I had the opportunity to start hosting a couple years ago.
Anywho, why all of this nostalgia? Well, it seems that the future of Acoustic Blend is a bit up in the air. The Purdue Board of Trustees voted last month to turn over management of WBAA to Indianapolis’ WFYI, and while continued local programming was promised it’s unclear at this point what that means. September’s show is still on, but beyond that it is currently a mystery.
For my first-ever show, I wanted to give a nod to all of my musical influences — and so you’ll hear Phil Keaggy and John Mayer to start the hour. I also mention my fascination with the documentary-style look at the writing of In Repair (One Song, One Day). And wow, I cannot believe that video is ten years old!
As we venture through the hour together, you’ll hear a few of my other favorites who have become regulars on the show: Andy Gullahorn, Josh Garrels, Jon Foreman, and Joe Peters(!)
Speaking of nostalgia, listening to full-length albums is a favorite pastime of mine, and Josh Garrels’ Love & War & The Sea in Between is on my all-time top ten list. You’ll hear three tracks from that album during the hour, before we close things out with a pair of tunes from Linda Hicks & Joe Peters’ collaborative project.
Acoustic Blend airs this Saturday, August 14 at 8pm EDT on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the playlist at barrettmyers.com and below, once the show airs. ‘Til next month!
