It’s August and time for a new episode of Acoustic Blend! This month we have a fresh installment of the covers series, featuring songs originally written and released in the 60s, 70s, 80s… every decade, up to and including the 2010s.
Our opening track is a “Graceland” cover from Greg LaFollette (and if his mellow, stripped down version of the Paul Simon tune floats your boat, you might enjoy his brand new album Ghosts & Empties). From there Chris Thile will lead us into a trio of songs from the 60s and 70s, and we’ll be off and running through the decades.
I have to admit that this month’s episode was inspired by a certain song by The Cleverlys that put a big smile on my face. It was so different from what I was expecting, and it got me thinking, “how can I work this into an Acoustic Blend episode?” This track below isn’t in this month’s playlist but is a good representation of their work:
Throughout the hour you’ll hear songs originally written by Tom Petty, Dolly Parton, Modest Mouse, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Taylor Swift. And we’ll close with a Beatles cover by Phil Keaggy. Hopefully you’ll be singing along to at least one of those!
Acoustic Blend airs Saturday, August 13 at 8pm EDT on WBAA AM 920 in Lafayette / West Lafayette, and streaming live on wbaa.org. You can view the full playlist below. ‘Til next month!
